In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The fifth of Jumada al-Awwal each year marks the blessed birth of a lady who was raised in the shadow of the love, upbringing and companionship of the Five Pure Ones (peace and blessings be upon them all), who are the finest of God's creation. The upbringing and growth of Zainab al-Kubra (PBUH) in this luminous school over more than fifty years brought forth such a colorful array of elements of nobility and excellence in this brilliant star of the ages that she has always been a source of praise, admiration and pride for divine saints. The peak of this brilliance occurred in the epic of Ashura — on one hand, the boundless bestowal of compassion, benevolence and patient care for the oppressed of the plain of Karbala; on the other, being among the most honored symbols of steadfastness and courage.
The history of the Islamic movement and revolution has from the beginning been filled with scenes of Zainab-like presence by Iranian women and girls. This found extraordinary quality and quantity during the unparalleled resurgence of the nation that took shape in the third Sacred Defense. Today, the Zainab-like women of Islamic Iran, with their strong presence in various arenas — particularly in the squares of cities and villages — are pioneers of practical clarification and resistance behind the frontlines of hard war, such that the tyrants of the age, who always seek suffering, pain and suppression for this nation, find themselves unable to confront this vast army.
The people of a land devoted to the pure progeny (peace and blessings be upon them all) have rightly designated the birth anniversary of Zainab al-Kubra (PBUH) as the day of honoring the status of nurses, given the aspect of kindness, empathy with the suffering and self-sacrifice. Many of these moral traits and human values are evident in the hardworking and valuable nursing community. The role of the nurse, like that of other groups such as physicians, teachers and educators, clerics and relief workers, is one of revival and hope. Hence the nurse is sometimes regarded as an angel of mercy — when, in the face of the ill-temper and impatience of suffering and ailing individuals, they bring about tranquility, hope, recovery and healing, and consequently the descent of divine mercy. Of course, unlike physicians, the nurse's role in treating patients requires continuous, persistent and patient presence. The impact of this presence transcends physical matters and serves as a balm for psychological and spiritual pains, preventing despair from prevailing in many cases. Thus, what lies beyond the physician's capacity is accomplished through this compassionate role.
In an era when the wicked network of arrogance spares no effort to inflict all manner of oppression and crime on free and resistant nations — especially the Iranian nation — including by creating various restrictions on medical affairs and medicines in order to impose suffering on the great Iranian nation, attention to nurses, strengthening the nursing community, preserving and enhancing the knowledge, skills, capability, vitality, motivation and dignity of nurses — especially those who have devoted themselves to serving in non-private institutions — has an important impact on the physical and mental health and security of society. Therefore, health officials are expected, in line with their committed conduct, to prioritize these important matters.
I congratulate the dear nation, the dutiful and determined women of the Islamic homeland, and particularly my dear nurse brothers and sisters, on these two occasions.
In conclusion, I beseech divine mercy for the oppressed and self-sacrificing martyrs of the nursing community, especially the nurse martyrs of the second and third imposed wars and the Dey 2026 sedition, and I hope that through the prayers of our Master (may God hasten his reappearance), the Almighty will grant the Iranian nation ever greater dignity and authority, and all that is worthy of following the school of Zainab (PBUH).
